Level 2 Award in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) – QCF

Electrical defibrillation is well established as the effective therapy for cardiac arrest, the most important determinant of survival being the time from collapse to delivery of the first shock. Today the widespread deployment of Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) is considered a realistic strategy for reducing death rates due to heart disease. This qualification is suitable for anyone wishing to develop their basic CPR and life support skills.

Delivery

Topics include;

  • Vital signs,
  • CPR,
  • Basic life support,
  • Chain of Survival,
  • Heart rhythms,
  • AED scenarios,
  • Troubleshooting problems and dealing with the aftermath.

This qualification is designed to provide essential life saving skills. Typical delivery methods are predominantly practical and the course is assessed by continual observation of candidate performance and a brief Multiple Choice Questionnaire.

Features

Qualification training requires;

  • Minimum tutor contact time of 6 hours (excluding breaks)
  • 1:12 tutor to candidate ratio
  • Course must be completed within 3 weeks of starting
  • Each delivery session must be a minimum of 2 hours

Successful completion will result in candidate gaining ITC Level 2 Award in Cardiopulmonary Resusucitation and Automated External Defibrillation (QCF) with a valid (licence to practice) lifetime of 3 years from date of completion

The qualification is re-validated by attending another training course after 3 years.
